MMA is a full-contact combat sport. At its base, it is based on boxing, kick and Thai boxing and grappling as well as other techniques from around the world.
Grappling is a hand-to-hand combat technique used in a variety of martial arts in which an opponent is grabbed and held. Consisting of sweeps, clinch fighting (clinching), ground fighting and submission holds.
Grappling is an important element in martial arts and can be a useful skill for self-defence or competition.
Training can include the following exercises:
- Ground and striking techniques (boxing, kicks, knees)
- Sweeps (swings/hooks)
- Exit or release from various positions such as the back mount or side control
- Various submission holds
ADVANTAGE #1. STRENGTH & CONDITION
MMA increases your strength and stamina. MMA is a technical-based martial art that demands a lot from you. There are an infinite number of transitions (transitions between positions) and submissions (submission holds designed to make your opponent give up).
This also means that your muscles will be equipped with a decent amount of power in the future.
ADVANTAGE #2. SELF-DEFENCE TECHNIQUES
In MMA you learn techniques such as the triangle choke, armbar, kneebar, boxing and kicks that make you a very dangerous opponent.
ADVANTAGE #3. DISCIPLINE AND SELF-CONFIDENCE
If the ego is trained, a provocation is no longer to be taken so seriously.
If you repeat a movement over and over again, it will eventually become automatic. This means that if someone attacks you, your body memory will react automatically.
ADVANTAGE #4. MENTAL PERFORMANCE
"The limitation is in the mind and has nothing to do with physical ability". This mindset is internalised and you believe in yourself more and more. You suddenly think in a solution-orientated way and no longer in a problem-orientated way. This means that the focus is placed on solutions in thought, speech and action. This develops a constant motivation.
